Allgäuer – Fürstabt Hefeweizen

Allgäuer brewery was founded in 1911 and has its roots in three breweries going together to become one large. It started in 1888 with the initial process to put together the  Aktienbrauerei Kempten, the Bürgerliche Brauhaus and the Grünbaumbrauerei.

Through various owners, the brewery is since 2003 owned ~90% by the Dr. Oetker group and in 2004 the brewery in Kempten, Germany was closed down and all brewing of Allgäuer was moved to Leuterschach, Germany where a new 8 million Euro brewery was built.

I bought this weissbier from a German webshop in Bayern as a part of a large lot, single price came down to 1,49 Euro for a 500 ml bottle at 5,3%

Good looking orange and dark yellow colour.

Medium sized head with a fine foam on the top.

Light and sweet fruit aroma, seems well-balanced.

Really good CO2 level that balances really well with a full bodied fruit taste that sparkles and plays with the yeast. Delicious after taste that offers a all the components one after another, fruit, wheat and hops.

Overall rating 88 / 100
