Canon EOS 500D / T1i manual aperture override in video mode

This is a neat little trick on how to set a manual aperture setting in video mode on the Canon EOS 500D / T1i camera.

Set the dial to manual picture mode (M).

Adjust to the desired aperture value, f.ex. F22.

Dis-attach the lens, it needs only to be turned a few millimetres, it will still sit tight on the camera, but be careful not to drop it.

The aperture reading in the display should now read F00.

Switch the dial to video mode.

Ignore the warning about attaching a lens and you are ready to shoot video with your manual aperture setting!

Reattaching the lens will reset your manual aperture setting and switch back to automatic.
