Quinta do Pego Colheita Porto 2007

I tasted this 750 ml bottle at 20% at a family dinner. It has a estimated price in Denmark of 34 Euro.

This Quinta do Pego Colheita 2007 was bottled in 2016.

Deep orange red colour.

Light sweet fruits in the aroma with a dominating alcohol.

Soft tannin with a okay balance to the fruit. After taste has a good sweet raisin which the slowly fades out.

When first uncorked it is dominated by the alcohol and needs to breathe, no decanting, just needs to sit for half a day in bottle with level under the neck. That really works wonders on a colheita.

Offley Colheita Porto 1997

I was given this 750 ml bottle at 20% as a present, but it was bought in a Danish super market.

Red with brown notes in the colour, a deep amber and wood shine to it.

The aroma comes off with a heavy dried fruit scent and some alcohol makes it way through.

Spiced flavours, some tannin, different dried fruits in the taste that develops into a distinct  raisin in the after taste.

Kopke Colheita Porto 1984

GS6A6046

Kopke was established in 1638 by Christiano Kopke and his son, Nicolau Kopke. The company was sold to the Bohane family, by the end of the 19th century, who tried to run it from London. The distance and the two World Wars disabled the control of the Company and they decided to sell it. In 1953 the Barros family bought the House of Kopke. In June 2006 it was sold and became a part of the SOGEVINUS Group.

I bought this 750ml bottle at 20% in Rema 1000 supermarket in Odense, Denmark at the price of 25 Euro.

This Kopke Colheita 1984 was bottled in 2014.

Brown colour with glaring stars of red in the tincture when seen against the candle.

Spices, dried fruits and a warm alcohol in the aroma.

A little bite from the tannin, warm and with some oak in the taste. A good dried fruits taste, sweet with raisins in the after taste that lasts a good while.

When first uncorked it is dominated by the alcohol and needs to breathe, no decanting, just needs to sit for half a day in bottle with level under the neck. That really works wonders on this cheap and to the price surprisingly good colheita, it mellows quickly over a few days, so enjoy it 1-2 days after opening.

Blandy’s Bual Colheita 1996

GS6A9732

GS6A9736

Blandy’s Madeira Wine was founded in 1811 by John Blandy that came to Madeira to be treated for his illness in the warm climate and to work in the banking sector. The company is still on family hands and is today run by the 6th generation.

I bought this 20%, 500 ml bottle of Blandy’s 1996 Bual Colheita in the Blandy’s wine store in airport on the island of Madeira at the price 39 Euro.

The bual grapes are used for the medium sweet wines. This single harvest Colheita wine was bottled ready to drink and does therefore not posses a ageing potential as the vintage wines.

This wine was matured on oak cask for 15 years and was bottled in 2011. This was from cask 24071/2 and bottle number 1469. A total of 3000 bottles was filled.

A  golden colour fills the glass and the alcohol sticks to the sides of the glass leaving nicely rounded curtains to set apart from the sharp line.

A sweet aroma with the pinch of alcohol, but nothing too strong to put out the pleasure of enjoying its aroma before tasting. A short sting of acid and a split second later the sweet flavour floats around the tongue. Best served in regular quantities as the taste fades within a minute. A good Madeira that was well enjoyed during Christmas by my family and I.
