Hofbräuhaus Traunstein – Weissbier Dunkel

Hofbräuhaus Traunstein was founded in Traunstein, Germany in the year of 1612 by the Elector of Bavaria, Maximilian I. The brewery was bought by Josef Sailer in 1896. In 1982 brewery Traunstein becomes the first brewery in the world to offer draught weissbier. The brwery is still owned and operated by the Sailer family.

Fun fact, in 1704 and 1851 buckets of beer was used to put out two large city fires in Traunstein.

I bought this weissbier from a German webshop in Bayern as a part of a large lot, single price came down to 1,49 Euro for a 500 ml bottle at 5,2%

Good looking orange, brown and amber colour.

Gigantic sized head with a fine foam on the top.

Good semi deep fruit aroma with a kind sweetness to it.

Good CO2 accompanies a tasteful fruit, along with wheat and some darkness to it. Good balance between the notes and a medium strength after taste of the previous described.

Overall rating 80 / 100
