The House of Wittelsbach began the first brewery in 1260. 32 years later, Herzog Rudolf built the castle Kaltenberg, which houses a part of the brewery’s facilities today. The brewery as it exists today was opened in 1870. Prince Luitpold of the House of Wittelsbach, is the great-grandson of the last King of Bavaria, Ludwig III.

A good yellow colour with a unfiltered look with red notes.

The head starts out huge with a rough base and a very fine top.

A well fruited aroma with a hint of barley.

The taste is a little too anonymous fruit accompanied with a little too flat CO2. Enjoying the aroma of this I had expected much more from the taste. It is still a good beer.

The bottle cap with the Bayern weapon shield looks good and so does the yellow labels.

In 24th October 1651, three years after the 30-year war, the basis for this small private brewery was layed as the brwer Mathias Puecher acquired the rights to brew beer in Lauter, Bayern. Since 1889 they have been brewing Weissbier according to the German purity law.

Yellow to orange unfiltered look with a little glow to it.

Head starts out big and a layer of fine bubbles.

Aroma is a short weak fruit with some bitter to it.

Very dull CO2 is the first that hits me, the fruit to the taste is okay but the finish is watery. A weissbier that does not make much of itself or shows any character.

Orange unfiltered, without the glow.

Head is big, rough and fine on the top.

A good fruit, not too strong and somehow with a hint of green in it, as in green plants aroma.

The taste is accompanied with a good bubbly CO2 and the fruit is, by a word seldom used by me when talking beer taste, dominated by the sense of banana, so much that it would seem added to beer later. As it goes down the taste dulls out and become boring.

Støckel weissbier is part of a series of four different beers, named after a relatively unknown Danish discoverer Johan Støckel. Vestfyens brewery was established in 1885 in Assens, Denmark and is a standalone brewery.

I found this beer at a local supermarket in Denmark at the price of 1,5 Euro for a 500 ml can with a strength of 4,8%.

A beer that lacks the unfiltered look and is instead a slightly hazy yellow.

The head is nice and settles slowly.

Aroma comes off with a sharp fruit. The aroma is much more dominant than the taste.

The taste is a anonymous fruit that disappears the second after drinking. There is no finish and the bitterness is far more dominant than the fruit.

A disappointing weissbier where only the head is a plus.

Flensburger brewery was established in 1888 as a privately owned brewery.

I found this beer at a local supermarket in Denmark at the price of ? Euro for a 330 ml bottle with a strength of 5,1%.

A beer with a beautiful orange glow to its unfiltered look.

The head is thick, fine and settles slowly.

Aroma is a light fruit.

The light taste of fruit leaves some wishes for more, as the taste is overall good. The finish fades with a clear and sweet banana to it.

The bottle comes with a resealable clamp cap and it is always a joy to open such a bottle!

The Weihenstephan Abbey was funded by the Benedictine monks in 725 and in 1040 they established what is now the oldest still operational brewery, in the world. The brewery is now owned by the state of Bavaria and is closely related to the technical university of Munich where studies on brewing and beverage manufacturing is a graduate program.

I bought this beer at Munich airport where it came with two beers in a crate with a Weihenstephan glass. Price was 6,7 Euro for two 500ml beers at 5,4% and a glass.

A beuatiful yellow unfiltered beer fills the glass and have a inviting look to it.

The head structure is very fine bubbles that stays with a good layer.

A fantastic aroma that is fruitful and at best I can describe it as delicious, such an invitation to the taste to come is perfect. Taste is a tad on the light side, sprinkling but the fruit fades too fast. Unlike some other weissbiers where the last sip can be dull or with too much sediment this is good all the way through.

This is a beer to give a try when sitting in the sun on a hot summer day.
