Lauterbacher Weissbier Hell

GS6A0819In 24th October 1651, three years after the 30-year war, the basis for this small private brewery was layed as the brwer Mathias Puecher acquired the rights to brew beer in Lauter, Bayern. Since 1889 they have been brewing Weissbier according to the German purity law.

Yellow to orange unfiltered look with a little glow to it.

Head starts out big and a layer of fine bubbles.

Aroma is a short weak fruit with some bitter to it.

Very dull CO2 is the first that hits me, the fruit to the taste is okay but the finish is watery. A weissbier that does not make much of itself or shows any character.

Bavaria 0,0%

GS6A0802

I bought this beer at a local supermarket at the price of 1,1 Euro for a 330ml bottle at 0,0%.

A slightly unfiltered look with a bright yellow colour to it.

The head structure is very fine bubbles that resembles a creamy foam.

A well rounded aroma of fruit and a gentle fruit taste with a fast finish. It is very noticeable that it is without alcohol and thereby gives the impression of a wheat smoothie or wheat lemonade. If you are driving or do not drink, this is a fair alternative for getting a Witbier.

Weihenstephan – Dunkel weissbier

GS6A0296

The Weihenstephan Abbey was funded by the Benedictine monks in 725 and in 1040 they established what is now the oldest still operational brewery, in the world. The brewery is now owned by the state of Bavaria and is closely related to the technical university of Munich where studies on brewing and beverage manufacturing is a graduate program.

I bought this beer at Munich airport where it came with two beers in a crate with a Weihenstephan glass. Price was 6,7 Euro for two 500ml beers at 5,3% and a glass.

A dark orange going to light brown unfiltered beer fills the glass and is much less dark than at first expected.

The head structure is rough and disappears quickly.

A fantastic aroma that is fruitful and at best I can describe it as delicious with a hint of spices. Taste is a delightful fruity and very well balanced experience. For a dark weissbier this certainly is not dark in neither colour or taste and that leaves a very good beer.

Primator Weizenbier

GS6A0815

The brewery was founded in 1872 in the city of Náchod in the Czech Republic.

I bought this beer in a local winestore in Denmark at the price of 3 Euro. The beer comes in a 500 ml bottle at 5%.

Orange unfiltered, without the glow.

Head is big, rough and fine on the top.

A good fruit, not too strong and somehow with a hint of green in it, as in green plants aroma.

The taste is accompanied with a good bubbly CO2 and the fruit is, by a word seldom used by me when talking beer taste, dominated by the sense of banana, so much that it would seem added to beer later. As it goes down the taste dulls out and become boring.

Scheldebrouwerij – Witheer

GS6A0583

Scheldebrouwerij is located in Meer, Holland. The brewery was founded in 1994.

I found this beer in a small beer shop located in a cellar on the main street of Tartu, Estonia. The price was 2,65 Euro for a 330 ml bottle with a strength of 5%.

A beer with a lot of sediment that needs to be stirred out of the bottle, a light orange look that is clouded completely.

The head is fine and huge. The big head will stay for a long time.

A over the top fresh aroma comes off with a delightful fruit. A very inviting aroma.

The taste is best described as good, the combination of the beer works very well together. The CO2 is giving the right bubbly sensation and with the long aftertaste there is plenty of enjoyment in the bottle. The coriander is not at all dominating the beer as it in some other witbiers can tend to be.

A highly recommend witbier.

Støckel weissbier

 GS6A0565

Støckel weissbier is part of a series of four different beers, named after a relatively unknown Danish discoverer Johan Støckel. Vestfyens brewery was established in 1885 in Assens, Denmark and is a standalone brewery.

I found this beer at a local supermarket in Denmark at the price of 1,5 Euro for a 500 ml can with a strength of 4,8%.

A beer that lacks the unfiltered look and is instead a slightly hazy yellow.

The head is nice and settles slowly.

Aroma comes off with a sharp fruit. The aroma is much more dominant than the taste.

The taste is a anonymous fruit that disappears the second after drinking. There is no finish and the bitterness is far more dominant than the fruit.

A disappointing weissbier where only the head is a plus.

Flensburger – Weizen

GS6A9049

Flensburger brewery was established in 1888 as a privately owned brewery.

I found this beer at a local supermarket in Denmark at the price of ? Euro for a 330 ml bottle with a strength of 5,1%.

A beer with a beautiful orange glow to its unfiltered look.

The head is thick, fine and settles slowly.

Aroma is a light fruit.

The light taste of fruit leaves some wishes for more, as the taste is overall good. The finish fades with a clear and sweet banana to it.

The bottle comes with a resealable clamp cap and it is always a joy to open such a bottle!

Weihenstephan – Hefe Weissbier

GS6A0295

The Weihenstephan Abbey was funded by the Benedictine monks in 725 and in 1040 they established what is now the oldest still operational brewery, in the world. The brewery is now owned by the state of Bavaria and is closely related to the technical university of Munich where studies on brewing and beverage manufacturing is a graduate program.

I bought this beer at Munich airport where it came with two beers in a crate with a Weihenstephan glass. Price was 6,7 Euro for two 500ml beers at 5,4% and a glass.

A beuatiful yellow unfiltered beer fills the glass and have a inviting look to it.

The head structure is very fine bubbles that stays with a good layer.

A fantastic aroma that is fruitful and at best I can describe it as delicious, such an invitation to the taste to come is perfect. Taste is a tad on the light side, sprinkling but the fruit fades too fast. Unlike some other weissbiers where the last sip can be dull or with too much sediment this is good all the way through.

This is a beer to give a try when sitting in the sun on a hot summer day.

Lobkowicz – Dark and Light

GS6A0248

The brewery in Vysoky Chlumec was established in 1466 and was purchased by the Lobkowicz family in 1474. The production was interrupted in 1939 when the brewery was confiscated by German armed forces and the Lobkowicz family was forced to exile to Great Britain. After World War II they returned in 1948 to Czechoslovakia only to vitness the communists take over their private properties and the brewery. In 1992 the brewery was returned to the Lobkowicz family and American born William Lobkowicz took over management of the family’s assets in the Czech Republic.

I bought these beers at a small beer basement shop in Tartu, Estonia. Two 500 ml bottles with a strength of 4,7% for 1,75 Euro each.

The idea is to drink them as it is done in the Czech Republic. The dark and light lager beers are mixed 50/50 or with less of the dark if you do not want it to dominate the light.

Colour is dark, a dark red with the beautiful nuances of chestnut.

The head is thin and very fine.

A weak aroma that does not make much notice of itself.

First tasting reveals a flat CO2 along with a light bitterness from the light beer but after taste is dominated by caramel from the dark beer. When mixed 50/50 the dark beer dominates and a little too much for my taste.

I would like to try it again, but with 75/25 light/dark.

Indslev Bryggeri – Svane hvede Hefe-Weizen

GS6A0566

Indslev brewery was established in 1897 by Frederik Christian Rasmussen. At some point the brewery was closed down, but in 2005 restored to former glory with brand new production equipment. The re-opening was made possible by Anders Busse Rasmussen, grand grand nephew of Frederik Christian Rasmussen

I bought this beer in a local supermarket in Denmark. Price was 3 Euro for a 500ml bottle at 4,9%.

The colour with a pretty orange glow and the unfiltered beer gives it a great nuance.

The head structure is very fine but fades away a little too quickly.

Aroma is fresh and fruity. The taste can feel a little flat from the low CO2 content but there a good play among the fruit notes and overall it has a great taste. Still a good Weissbier!
