Christoffel – Wijs

GS6A0788

Christoffel brewery is located in Holland. Founded in 1986 in the city of Roermond, a former coal mine industrial area. The brewery is named after the guardian saint of the city, Saint Christoffel. Christoffel brewery makes its fermentation in open tanks and all beers unpasteurised.

Bought in a local wine store and beer specialist in Denmark, 3,33 Euro for a 330 ml bottle at 6%.

A dark red colour, almost as close to brown as it can get.

The head got a coloured note from the beer and quickly dissipates into a thin layer.

A faint fruit can be sensed in the aroma, but is dominated by the dark notes of caramel.

It is a wheat beer, but that is by far what I find in the taste, by its less amount of yeast there is almost no CO2 left in the beer when it is poured. Caramel and bitterness dominates and it is the same for the finish.

Svyturys – White Baltas

Švyturys brewery was established in 1784 and is by that the oldest brewery in Lithuania. The brewery was destroyed doing world war 2 and was rebuilt in 1946. Majority of the brewery was in 1999 bought by Carlsberg and is still on their hands today.

I found this beer at a local supermarket in Denmark at the reasonable price of 1,33 Euro for a 500 ml can with a strength of 5%.

A thick mass yellow fills the glass as this unfiltered beer contains a lot of sediment that takes some swirls to get out of the bottle.

The head is big, rough and settles into a thin layer, the head is long lasting and sets off the beer nicely.

A less fruity but fresh aroma and taste gives the beer a nice touch, but the long lasting taste is unfortunately dominated by the yeast. The yeast after taste is in no way a problem when drinking one of these beers, but I would properly not drink a 2nd and 3rd right after each other.

A decent beer to the money but nothing more than that. I could only wish for less yeast residue to give it a bit more balance.

Brygværket – Vild hvede

Brygværket came into this world in 2012 as the result of the distributor One Pint and the brewer Christian Andersen’s cooperation. Christian Andersen delivers the recipes and the beer is brewed at Ørbæk brewery in Denmark.

I found this beer at a local supermarket in Denmark at the price of 2,66 Euro for a 500 ml bottle with a strength of 5%.

The colour is a full yellow and this unfiltered beer have the look of a fog in the glass. There is only little sediment in the bottle to swirl around and add to the glass.

The head structure is rough and quickly disappears into almost nothing, I would wish the head would stay longer.

The taste is a strong fruitful one where the hint of yeast almost goes unnoticed. Aroma is strong and this beer is different. The beer is everything that the brewer promises on the bottle.

The barley malt is organic and is a step on the way to a completely organic beer.

Bryghuset Braunstein – Økologisk hvede

This organic wheat beer comes from a private owned micro brewery located at Koege in the Denmark. The micro brewery is from 2011 and is run by two brothers that also own it. They try to target a smaller market with their special beers and especially their organic beers.

I found this beer at a local supermarket in Denmark at the of 1,75 Euro for a 330 ml bottle with a strength of 5%.

The colour is almost dark orange brown from the heavy amount of sediment in this unfiltered beer. This does not look as delicious as I would hope for.

The head structure is light bubbles that quickly disappears into a thin layer.

There is a large amount of sediment on the bottom of the bottle and you have to swirl it good to get it all out.

A good fruity and fresh taste, it is really well balanced in its taste and the aroma have a hint of yeast. This positive experience only lasts till the bottom of the glass, the heavy sediment falls quickly leaving a sour taste of yeast. I would advise on throwing out the last bit in the glass and then enjoy a good beer, but never finish it.

Colour is not too appealing to me, taste and aroma is really satisfying but I do not like to advise on throwing out beer when it comes from a small and expensive bottle. Organic beer brewing is a plus for doing something good for us humans, I like that and this is also what saves this beer its rating.
