Aass brewery as it known today was founded in 1867 by Poul Lauritz Aass and the brewery is still on family hands with the 5th generation working on it today.

I bought this beer in a local shop outside of Oslo, Norway at the price of 4,2 Euro for a 500ml can at 4,7%.

The beer is bright and clear like a pilsner beer, it is clearly filtrated.

The head disappears quickly.

The aroma is weak and I was unable to make anything of it.

Drinking it is a fresh, light and bubbly experience but it has nothing to do with a weissbier or wheat beer, it is a pilsner for all I know.

Augustiner beer is brewed since 1328 by the Augustiner monestary located in Munich, Germany. In 1806 the brewery became privately owned with the secularization of state and church. The Wagner family took over ownership in 1829. The brewery sustained heavy damage doing second world war and was rebuilt soon after.

I bought this beer in KaDeWe in Berlin, Germany at the price of 1,86 Euro for a 500ml bottle at 5,4%.

A beautiful unfiltered yellow beer with a orange glow.

A big head with a rough bubbles in the bottom and fine on the top.

The aroma is light and fresh with a weak fruit to it.

The CO2 is suitable but the taste is too weak and can have a watery feeling to it.

Coisbo – Six – Dunkles weizen

Coisbo beer took its start in 2007 in Morud in Denmark. Brewer Anders Coisbo rents in on different breweries to make his beers.

I bought this beer from the wine shop Vinoble in Odense, Denmark at the price of 7 Euro for a 500 ml bottle at 5,6%

A beautiful brown colour with a orange glow and almost turning red.

Medium sized bubbles makes up the head that disperses into a layer that stays for a long while.

Dark caramel, fresh and lightly fruited aroma.

Good CO2 that balances well with deep notes of fruit, almost replicating the taste complexities found in port. Good dark sweet after taste.

A expensive beer, but it does show some real good qualities.

GS6A2384Tou brewery in Stavanger, Norway was closed in 2003 and as a reaction Lervig aktiebryggeri was founded to still have a brewery in Stavanger. The beer was at first made by another brewery before the brewery got their own production in 2005.

I bought this beer in a local beer shop in Oslo, Norway at the price of 3,2 Euro for a 330ml bottle at 4,7%

Very light yellow almost with white tones in the colour.

A head of fine bubbles that stay.

A light fruit aroma.

Bubbly and fresh, weak in the taste with no bitterness or notes. It is too light in the taste and can seem watery. Poetry and a nice looking label.

Midtfyns brew house was founded in 2004 in Årslev, Denmark. It is a micro brewery that started out brewing beer on license from Scotland but since 2006 they have used their own recipes and develop their own new beers.

I bought this beer in a local wine shop in Odense, Denmark at the price of 6 Euro for a 500ml bottle at 6,2%

The colour is orange with mostly brown glow and notes too it, due to its heavy residue and being unfiltered.

The head is good, but disappears quickly and leaves a thin layer.

The aroma is fresh and fruity with a hint of bitterness.

Very low CO2, hops shines through and the fruit feels anonymous. The after taste is pleasent, the bitterness is low and good and it hides its high alcohol level very good.

Blandy’s Madeira Wine was founded in 1811 by John Blandy that came to Madeira to be treated for his illness in the warm climate and to work in the banking sector. The company is still on family hands and is today run by the 6th generation.

I bought this 20%, 750 ml bottle of Blandy’s 1977 Bual in a local wine store in Funchal on the island of Madeira at the price 101,5 Euro.

The bual grapes are used for the medium sweet wines.

This wine was matured on oak cask for 32 years and was bottled in 2009. A total of 1666 bottles was filled.

A dark golden colour fills the glass and the alcohol sticks to the sides of the glass leaving it with rounded figures to set apart from the sharp lines of the glass.

A aroma and taste with such complexity that it is hard to describe, very intensive at first but as the wine settles in the mouth the taste grows and grows on you. A sweet taste that stays for so long and is so intense that even half a glass is enough to enjoy this delicious wine. A easy to drink madeira that lands perfectly in the middle of the vintage years, good price to the taste.

Visiting Graham’s in Porto

Graham’s was founded in 1820 by the brothers William and John Graham.

In 1890 they made a far sighted move and as one of the first port producers, they bought their own wine yard. The now famous Quinta dos Malvedos. It was the same year they built their lodge at its current location in Vila Nova de Gaia.

In 1912 they switched from transporting the pipes of port by boat to have it driven down by train on the newly constructed rail roads.

In 1970 Graham’s was bought by the Symington family and is at present day still in their possession.

Haandbryggeriet – Bavaria

GS6A2084Haandbryggeriet is a small hand brewery located in Drammen, Norway. Four guys that used to brew at home moved into a old horse stable in 2005 and in 2011 they got a large premise with room for more tanks.

I bought this bottle of re-fermented, unfiltered and non pasteurized beer in a local supermarket in Lillestrøm, Norway at a price of 6 Euro for a 500 ml bottle at 4,5%

Light yellow unfiltered beer.

Head starts out big and settles down to a thin layer.

Aroma is fresh and with a hint of bitter fruit.

Good CO2 with the same slightly bitter fruit from the aroma in the taste with a good sweetness along it, after taste dominated by the bitterness over the fruit.

It is a wheat beer called Bavaria and thus I look upon it as weissbier. Price is on the expensive side.

The Gourmet Brewery was founded in 2005 in Denmark, today the two originally owners are no longer a part of the brewery and it is owned by the Harboe brewery group.

I bought this beer in a local supermarket in Odense, Denmark at the price of 1,5 Euro for a 500 ml can at 4,8%.

The colour is yellow and looks filtered, there is lack of sediment for this beer type.

Very rough head that disappears quickly.

The aroma is a lovely fruit aroma.

Light bubbly CO2 with a hint of fruit, fast after taste and the alcohol is dominating. This beer reminds me more of a witbier than a weissbier.

The Henriques & Henriques 5 Year Reserve Finest Full Rich was bought on the Island of Madeira during a holiday visit.

The Henriques & Henriques Madeira Fine Old Malmsay No.1 was bought on a auction with some other wines and given to me as a gift from a friend.

From the research I have been able to make about the wine shop that once sold this old bottle, Kolding Vinhandel and named with the owner Christian Friis, he was part of the company between 1910 and 1923, the 3rd generation took over the wine shop in 1943, this does not go to well with the writings on the label about it winning awards in 1929 and 1930. After contact with Henriques & Henriques they could confirm that it is a 5 year Madeira and somewhere around 75 years old.

 

The Henriques & Henriques 5 Year Reserve Finest Full Rich

The wine is red with brown notes to the colour.

Aroma comes off with a dried fruits and alcohol.

Strong taste of dried fruits like raisins, some tannin, warm and strong in the throat, easy to drink and after taste of about 30 seconds. A straight forward and solid taste of dried fruits and nothing more.

The Henriques & Henriques Madeira Fine Old Malmsay No.1

The wine is brown with some red notes to the colour.

Semi sweet aroma and the alcohol dominates.

A very sweet taste of dried fruits, a complex mix of fruits, very little tannin and the alcohol is pleasant. A very enjoyable after taste of dried fruits that lasts a good while. It can however seem dull in large glasses and it was never a wine meant for maturing.
