Latrappe – Witte trappist

The Trappist monks brewed their first ale in 1884 in the village of Berkel-Enschot, Netherlands. After world war 1 in 1920 a bigger brewery was built to keep up with demand. The name La Trappe was introduced in 1980 and a new brew house was installed in 1989.

I bought this beer in a local wine shop in Odense, Denmark at the price of 3 Euro for a 330 ml bottle at 5,5%.

The unfiltered beer have a light yellow colour.

The head is big and white, leaves a thin layer.

The aroma is sweet with a hint of banana.

The taste is a light fruit with a little bitterness and a fast after taste. CO2 is good.

Widmer brothers Hefeweizen.

Kurt and Rob Widmer starts home brewing as it is legalized in Oregon, USA in 1979. Widmer brewing company opens in 1984 and the brothers work full time on it. The beers was only delivered as draft up until 1996 where the first bottled beer is produced. The brewery is today still run by the brothers.

I bought this beer in a beer shop in Berlin, Germany at the price of 3,65 Euro for at 355 ml bottle at 4,9%.

A yellow unfiltered beer with heavy and large sediment, take care when pouring.

There was no head developing.

The aroma is dominated by the hops and comes off with a sharp and slightly bitter fruit.

The taste is, as the aroma, dominated by the hops and have a flowery taste to that lives into the fade. The CO2 dies out quickly.

This beer should have been called a Wit and they could have gotten away with it.

Unertl – Weissbier

Unertl brewery was founded in Haag, Germany in 1929 by Philomena and Alois Unertl. The brewery is today family owned by the 4th generation of the Unertl family.

I bought this beer in KaDeWe, Berlin at the price of 1,86 Euro for at 500 ml bottle at 4,9%.

A brown colour with a light glow in the bottom.

The head disappears fast and leaves only a thin layer.

The aroma is sweet, fruity and with a scent of caramel.

The medium CO2 comes with a mix of fruit and caramel, the taste is still on the light side and fades very fast.

Hansa – Hvete

Hansa brewery is located in Bergen, Norway and was founded in 1891 by Waldemar Stoud  Platou. The brewery was moved from the City centre to outer skirts industrial areas in the 1980s. In 1997 Borg brewery and Hansa fused into Hansa Borg breweries.

I bought this wheat beer, brewed as a weissbier as it says, in a local supermarket in Oslo, Norway at the price of ? Euro for a 500 ml can at 4,6%.

Light yellow and not very unfiltered, a haze at most.

Head is rough and quickly disperses into a thin layer.

Aroma is good, sweet and fruity.

CO2 is good, but the taste is too weak and watery, after taste is more to the hops side than a fruit.

St. Georgen Bräu – Weissbier

St. Georgen-Bräu brewery is located in Buttenheim, Germany. The brewery was founded in 1624 and from 1814 to 2009 it was owned by the Modschiedler family. The brew master Norbert Kramer took over ownership thereafter, he was employed on the brewery since 2000.

I bought this beer in a local supermarket in Oslo, Norway at the price of 6 Euro for a 500ml bottle at 4,6%.

Colour is a unfiltered yellow with a orange glow to it.

Head comes off very big and settles slowly into a layer of fine bubbles.

Aroma is a light and fresh fruit.

A medium CO2 makes for a pleasant drink where the fruit is a bit on the hops side and after taste is not long lasting. The fruit in the taste does not really stand out.

Andechser Weissbier Hell

Seven Benedictine monks was in 1455 sent to new Andechs monastery from Tegernsee. Beer have been brewed in the monastery since the middle-age. In 1850 they purchased the Abbey of St Boniface in Munich for beer cellar. The modern brewery was built in the 1970-80s.

I bought this beer in Berlin Beer Shop, Germany at the price of 1,8 Euro for a 500ml bottle at 5,5%

The colour is yellow with a orange glow to the unfiltered beer.

The head is big and made of fine bubbles, a head that stays while drinking the beer.

The aroma comes off good with a nice soft and sweet fruit.

A fresh CO2 makes a bubbly experience of this sweet and wonderful fruit taste, the after taste is a nice fade of the drinking.

Sullerica Blanca

I bought this beer in a small delicates shop in Alcúdia on the island of Mallorca, Spain at the price of 4 Euro for a 330 ml bottle at 3,7%

A yellow thick flowing and deep hazy beer from this unfiltered wheat beer.

Small head with a rough structure and with a thin layer staying.

Good hoppy and fruited aroma with some sweetness to it.

Heavy CO2 with well suited fruit taste, a light bitterness in the after taste.

Aass Weizen

Aass brewery as it known today was founded in 1867 by Poul Lauritz Aass and the brewery is still on family hands with the 5th generation working on it today.

I bought this beer in a local shop outside of Oslo, Norway at the price of 4,2 Euro for a 500ml can at 4,7%.

The beer is bright and clear like a pilsner beer, it is clearly filtrated.

The head disappears quickly.

The aroma is weak and I was unable to make anything of it.

Drinking it is a fresh, light and bubbly experience but it has nothing to do with a weissbier or wheat beer, it is a pilsner for all I know.

Augustiner Weissbier

Augustiner beer is brewed since 1328 by the Augustiner monestary located in Munich, Germany. In 1806 the brewery became privately owned with the secularization of state and church. The Wagner family took over ownership in 1829. The brewery sustained heavy damage doing second world war and was rebuilt soon after.

I bought this beer in KaDeWe in Berlin, Germany at the price of 1,86 Euro for a 500ml bottle at 5,4%.

A beautiful unfiltered yellow beer with a orange glow.

A big head with a rough bubbles in the bottom and fine on the top.

The aroma is light and fresh with a weak fruit to it.

The CO2 is suitable but the taste is too weak and can have a watery feeling to it.

Coisbo – Six – Dunkles weizen

Coisbo beer took its start in 2007 in Morud in Denmark. Brewer Anders Coisbo rents in on different breweries to make his beers.

I bought this beer from the wine shop Vinoble in Odense, Denmark at the price of 7 Euro for a 500 ml bottle at 5,6%

A beautiful brown colour with a orange glow and almost turning red.

Medium sized bubbles makes up the head that disperses into a layer that stays for a long while.

Dark caramel, fresh and lightly fruited aroma.

Good CO2 that balances well with deep notes of fruit, almost replicating the taste complexities found in port. Good dark sweet after taste.

A expensive beer, but it does show some real good qualities.
