Stieglbrauerei zu Salzburg is a brewery located in Salzburg, Austria. It was founded in 1492 by the name Brew am Stiegl. The name originates from the steps that lead up to the brew house from the river.

The brewery grew larger through time and moved by 1863 its production to city of Maxglan. The old brew house was sold to the city in 1909. Stiegl is the largest privately owned brewery in Austria.

I bought this unfiltered weissbier at Systembolaget in Kristianstad, Sweden at the price of 2,5 Euro for at 500 ml bottle at 5,1%.

A good looking orange and yellow beer with good haziness.

Great big head, the rough bottom falls together and leaves a fine top.

Light and sweet fruit in the aroma.

Good CO2, very sweet fruit with a long after taste. A absolutely fruit bomb and something to enjoy in small sips, not a beer meant for quenching a thirst.

Slotbryggeriet Gavnø – Hvedeøl

Slotsbryggeriet Gavnø is located on the castle of Gavnø, Denmark. The castle dates back to the 1800’s and the brewery is in on of the old breeding stables. Brewer Mogens Damm runs the daily production and the brewery is owned by Baroness Helle Reedtz-Thott.

They use ingredients from their own production and water from their own natural spring.

 

I bought this unfiltered wheat beer from the supermarket Irma in Copenhagen, Denmark at the price of 4 Euro for a 500ml bottle at 4,9%.

A very beautiful, thick and very hazy orange colour.

A great big head.

Sweet and lovely fruit aroma but with a hint of something weird.

Medium CO2, sweet and hoppy. A weird taste that does not belong in a beer comes through after a few seconds. I had to throw the beer out, it was like it was contaminated.

I took contact to the brewery and offered them to send in a sample for examination, they refused with the argumentation that their control is good and there was no chance of a contaminated bottle leaving the factory. With my experience from the food and brewery industry, I can only say that it is a arrogant approach to food safety.

Herslev Bryghus – Hvedeøl

Tore Jørgensen founded Herslev Bryghus in 2004 in the buildings belonging to the old farm Toftegaard in Herslev, Denmark. He has been involved in wine production and micro breweries since 1998.

I bought this unfiltered organic wheat beer from the supermarket Irma in Copenhagen, Denmark at the price of 4 Euro for a 500ml bottle at 5%.

Orange and yellow in colour and a regular unfiltered haziness.

No head at all, any foam disperses instantly.

Delicious and sweet fruit aroma, a real inviting pleasure.

A lot of CO2, a very active beer, good full bodied fruit taste and only a slight wheat and bitterness to the after taste. A very good organic wheat beer!

The brewery was founded in 1707 when Fürstbischof Marquard II build a brewery in his castle in Titting, Bayern, Germany.

The brewery closed down in 1759 and was reopened in 1786 by Fürstbischof Johann Anton III. The brewery became part of Bayern in 1808 and in 1821 it was sold and was now privately owned. The brewery have been in the hands of the Gutmann family since 1855.

I bought this beer at a Bayern web shop at the price of 2,5 Euro for a 500 ml bottle at 5,2%.

A deep unfiltered beer with a lot of sediment making for a very dense look of orange, so dense that it looks almost grayish.

A small rough head.

A deep wheat aroma, some fruit to it and for some strange reason a tad of pouridge…

Good CO2, light and watery in the taste, weak fruit with a medium after taste.

Indslev bryggeri – Frederiks Påske

Indslev brewery was established in 1897 by Frederik Christian Rasmussen. At some point the brewery was closed down, but in 2005 restored to former glory with brand new production equipment. The re-opening was made possible by Anders Busse Rasmussen, grand grand nephew of Frederik Christian Rasmussen.

I bought this beer in a local super market in Odense, Denmark at the price of 4 Euro for a 500ml bottle at 5,5%.

Shining yellow colour with a white bottom.

White medium head with a fine bubbles on top.

Flowery aroma with a deep sweetness.

Good CO2, hoppy, flowery, fresh, sweet wheat. Spring in a bottle with maybe a tad too much bitterness.

The Maisel brewery was founded in 1887 by Hans und Eberhardt Maisel as a family business. The brewery is located in Bayreuth, Oberfranken, near Nürnberg in Germany. Today it is the fourth generation of the family, Jeff Maisel that runs the brewery.

I bought this beer at a Bayern web shop at the price of 2,5 Euro for a 500 ml bottle at 0%.

A beautiful deep orange glow to the colour of this unfiltered beer.

A gigantic head of fine bubbles with even finer bubbles on top.

A sweet wheat with a little fruit in the aroma.

Low CO2, sweet in the taste but can come off a little neutral or watery. There is no after taste what so ever. Still a pretty decent taste for a non-alcoholic beer.

The bottle came with a lead shield around the neck with vintage 1970 stamped in, underneath the vax seal there was an additional lead encapsulation around the neck.

1 hour in the decanter

Clear  red and brown colour.

Suitable aroma that comes off with a fine and spiced scent with sweet dried fruits.

Full bodied with mild tannin, long after taste with everything there is to wish for in complexity with dried fruits.

Oak is now present in the aroma.
